Linclon ACE 2009-2010 Recap

It was an interesting year with 3  kids at home using a new system. My senior graduated and will be attending NWACC in the fall.  My other 2 are registered to attend ACE again in the fall, unless an amazing travel opportunity materializes for the 5th grader.  What did I think of the program overall:

1)  The staff at Lincoln ACE has to work out the kinks in the online high school. I am better prepared this year and I understand how the K12 high school online system works. Parent training is needed so that they can hit the ground running when school starts. It is difficult to figure out what is due and when, and to see how much time the kids are spending in each class.

2)  A guidance counselor should be assigned to the online high school kids. They need to know when to take the ACT, the PSAT and the SAT. I did not receive any information about these tests last year. FYI for 2010-2011 make up algebra I end of course test is in September 2010 and the PSAT for 10th graders will be taken in October 2010.

3)  Parents need to know in advance when K12 is going to have school holidays and vacations that do not coincide with the Lincoln School Districts calendar.

4)  Kids should be able to start school when the materials arrive instead of having to wait until the office start of school. This year the 2010-2011 school year starts on August 19.
